About Us

The Green Kids Science Club program is a STEM-focused interactive mentoring, tutoring,project-based, and hands-on learning experience that is designed to help students understand how the academic disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics impact their world and prepare them for the workforce of tomorrow.

The program is also multi-discipline based, incorporating the integration of other disciplinary knowledge.  Students will understand how technology helps them communicate by using STEM as a process for critical thinking and innovation.  The program will offer students the opportunity to make sense of the world and take charge of their learning, rather than learning isolated bits and pieces of content.

Our approach is to create a learning environment where less emphasis is placed on activities that demonstrate science content but a greater focus on those activities that allow students to engage in real-world problems and experiences through project-based, experiential activities that lead to higher-level thinking.

Our learning environment will compel students to understand issues, distill problems, and comprehend processes that lead to innovative solutions. Students will be empowered to learn through experiences where they talk and engage in discourse. Students will work in teams and engage in team projects where they must shape arguments and solve problems in the course of the continuous process of asking questions, experimenting, designing, creating, and gathering compelling supporting evidence.

Green Kids Science Club is a member of the West Virginia Youth Environmental, which is sponsored by the WV Department of Environmental Protection Agency.  Students in grades 4-12 will be recruited into the program, provided they have a C+ grade average and have an interest in learning science and technology with a desire to become an engineer, scientist, doctor, architect, and other careers in science and technology.

Students will also gain a level of understanding of global warming, climate change, and other environmental changes that affect our planet.

The objectives are as follows:

>> Create awareness for ways in which the Western lifestyle negatively impacts the earth.

>> Create awareness for alternatives to our current ways of living, eating, and traveling.

>> Challenge kids to talk to their parents or other grown-ups about how we can make simple changes that can add up to big differences for the future.

If we can we can teach kids in their early years to measure their own ecological footprints, the benefits are very necessary and also rewarding.

Our program is an interactive one that includes their parents, siblings, and neighbors. Participants will learn how to become “Super Energy Savers” by taking a checklist and walking through their homes to identify energy-saving practices with the help of their parents.
Participants will have the opportunity to visit Solar Farms, Wind Farms, and various manufacturing plants that produce various types of renewable energy products such as Solar Panels, Wind Turbines, Smart Meters, Electric Car components, and various other green building materials.
